Catching up with German Ambassador to Japan Hans Carl von Werthern. He served his country and this post since March 2014 and retired in June 2019. I knew him since his diplomatic work in Beijing before he came to Tokyo. A very generous man full of blistering intelligence, enthusiasm and humor who was loved by the Japanese people. The German community in Japan will certainly miss him, and will hear from him again: He remains Honorary Member of the German East Asiatic Society in Tokyo!
